You will receive an immediate response and a file number is assigned. While filing the complaint against the insurance company, make sure to supplement them with all the necessary documents and particulars.
Don't be laid back after filing the complaint assuming that the matter would be definitely sorted out by the State Insurance Department. The insurance department also has certain limitation and restrictions. It cannot solve all the disputes as the insurance coverages and policies vary from company to company. If everything works in your favor then you will surely win the claim. Else, you will have to incur the losses.
In few cases the insurance companies aren't the culprits as there is misunderstanding from the insured. Usually people buy the insurance coverage without going through the protection they are provided with and blame it on the insurance companies if something unexpected happens and they are denied from the coverage.
Before buying or applying for any insurance do verify certain facts such as:

Buying the insurance from a company/broker or via net or over phone is not a matter of real concern. But more important is, getting it from a licensed individual. So, make sure to get the insurance from a reliable company which has a clean track record. Also, keep a tab on your insurance company to know its financial strength and stability.
